A spring washer, also known as a split lock washer, is a washer with a helical shape and a split gap that provides elastic spring force when compressed under tightening. When installed, the washer flattens and exerts continuous axial tension against the nut or bolt head, helping maintain preload and resist loosening caused by vibration or thermal cycling.
